Global Scholars don't just learn about leadership, citizenship, and global engagement in the classroom; they practice it.
These three opportunities give students a real voice: shaping the GSD program itself, representing their generation in a national conversation, and connecting directly with the leaders building our region's future.

America 250 Essay Contest
Reflect on what it means to be a citizen today and get recognized for it! Write an essay on citizenship for a chance to be honored by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.
Open to all GSD students

Global Leadership Summit
Sit at the table with the region's leaders. Not as an observer, but as a contributor. An afternoon of facilitated conversation, mentorship, and connection across generations.

About the Columbus Council on World Affairs
The Columbus Council on World Affairs (CCWA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a globally engaged Central Ohio. We believe that understanding the world—and our place in it—is essential for building stronger communities, workplaces, and future leaders.
Through educational programs, professional development, international exchanges, and community partnerships, CCWA connects people across cultures and perspectives. Our work empowers individuals of all ages to develop the knowledge, skills, and curiosity needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Every year, the Global Scholars Diploma connects hundreds of students with professionals and community leaders from across Central Ohio.
Together, we help students:

• Discover ways they can create positive change in their own communities
By partnering with local professionals, educators, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations, we create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for college, careers, and civic life.
